SPEAKER BIOS
Bruno Le Maire, born on 15th April 1969, is a French politician, diplomat and author (“L’ange et la bête” (Gallimard)). He is France’s Minister for finance and the economy since May 2017. He started his career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He worked in the ‘Cabinets’ of various Ministers before being appointed adviser and then chief of staff for Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin. In June 2007, he was elected MP in the Eure département, a post he still holds. In December 2008, he was appointed Minister for European Affairs in François Fillon’s government. He was then Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries between 2009 and 2012.
Richard Baldwin is Professor of International Economics at the Graduate Institute, Geneva, Co-Director of the CTEI, and founder and Editor-in-Chief of VoxEU.org. He advises governments and international organisations around the world, and is a prolific author. His latest book is The Globotics Upheaval: Globalization, Robotics, and the Future of Work(2019 Oxford University Press). Previously, he was President of the Centre of Economic Policy Research (2014 to 2018), and worked in the Bush White House (1990 to 1991).
